Start Strong State Assessment

During the 2020-21 School year the NJ Department of Education received a waiver from the Federal Government that allowed them to cancel the NJSLA due to COVID-19.  As part of the waiver all New Jersey Schools are required to administer Start Strong in the Fall of 2021.

While this test replaced last Spring’s NJSLA it is a much shorter version that is aligned to a small set of standards from the year before.  This will allow educators to understand the level of support students will need at the beginning of the school year.  The test will be given in a single class period of approximately 45-60 minutes.  NJ DOE has a short presentation to help Parents understand the Start Strong Assessments

Millville School District will be administering the START STRONG State Assessment during a testing window of September 30, 2021 thru October 11, 2021.  The following is the list of content areas and grade levels who will be testing:

 Grade 6  English Language Arts and Mathematics and Science
 Grade 7  English Language Arts and Mathematics
 Grade 8  English Language Arts and Mathematics
 English 9  English Language Arts
 English 10  English Language Arts
 Algebra 1  Algebra 1
 Geometry  Geometry
 All 9th Grade Students   Science
 All 12th Grade Students  Science

Results of these assessments are expected in late November and will be shared with parents as soon as they are available.
